Realm of the Dragon
Project Location:
Asia
Scope of Work:
Ride Concept, Theming, Scaled Model
Project Size:
4,550 sqm
Design Requirements
- Project required the combination of two different ride systems – a trackless dark ride that led into two flying theatres. The solution would need to seamlessly integrate the two experiences into one cohesive journey.
- Due to the large scale of the ride, the attraction required an appropriate theme that could be used across the whole site to evoke the grandeur and excitement that guests could feel immediately.
- Since both ride systems have a different number of persons they can carry per vehicle/gondola, the resulting attraction would require an efficient and constant movement of persons through the ride with minimal blockages.
Our Approach
- To create a seamless experience for guests transitioning from the trackless dark ride into the flying theatre, an elevator system was implemented that evenly distributed dark ride vehicles across three levels to match the three levels of the flying theatre. Additionally, an expansive three-storey pre-show room was created in between the two rides so that people remained constantly immersed in the storytelling while waiting to board into the theatre.
- The ride’s theme was modelled after ancient storybook castles guarded by fierce and mystic dragons to evoke the sense of excitement and danger even before stepping into the queue. The castle’s tall spires and cathedral-like architecture would be visible from far away, piquing the curiosity of guests and inviting everyone to experience the exciting attraction.
- To ensure the throughput of guests remained constant, the capacity of both the dark ride and flying theatre had to stay synchronized. Our team ran calculations to ensure that the number of vehicles cycling throughout the attraction would deliver enough riders so both theatres had all gondolas running at the same capacity. Any guest bottlenecks could be contained in the pre-show area where waiting riders could still be immersed in the storytelling without obstructing ride operations.
